Why transparency is important when it comes to sharing team feedback

At Tyto we’re lucky enough to work with some of the best tech companies in the world. There’s no doubt that a major part of why these companies choose to work with us is because we’ve assembled a team packed-full of diverse talent and expertise from across Europe. I truly believe I get to work with the best people in the business every day.

We never want to take that for granted and know that to keep attracting the best European PR professionals we need to keep innovating and evolving what it means to work at Tyto, that’s why each year we conduct a comprehensive, anonymous survey of our staff to understand how they feel about working life at Tyto. We cover everything from current happiness levels, feedback on personal development opportunities, our approach to client service and media relations, line management to Tyto’s benefits, culture and commitments to D,E&I.

We always share these findings in full, with the whole team and each year I’m always impressed with the team’s insights, forward thinking and ideas for how we can work together to continue to innovate and lead the industry for our employees, clients, and wider communications community.

For the first time, we’re now publishing our staff survey in full on our website. We’re doing this because we believe in full transparency for the win. Also, for anyone thinking of working with us either as a team member or a client, hearing what our team say about Tyto, unfiltered and anonymously will be a great way to work out if you’d like to be part of what we’re doing and striving for.

So for anyone interested, please see the full responses here. But I always wanted to distil the insights into our top three actionable insights for 2022:

Recommend a role at Tyto

Just like most consumer brands do with their products, we believe that one of the best measures for how we’re doing as an employer is to see how likely people are to recommend a role at Tyto to a friend. Over the last 12 months we’ve seen an increase in people answering ‘very likely’ to this question from 73% in 2020 to 83% in 2022. In fact, 96% of the team said they’d be ‘likely’ or ‘very likely’ to recommend a role at Tyto to a friend in 2022.

Flexible working

With a team spread across five different countries understanding location specific HR policies and cultural preferences for benefits and ways of working has been top priority for us. We often find the needs of our employees vary depending on the country they’re located in. But one common thing we heard from our employees this year irrespective of location, was the desire for us to continue to innovate and iterate our approach to flexible working. From day one, this has been an important aspect of working life at Tyto, as we’ve been location agnostic for five years. But in those years the world has moved on and so we’re now working with our team to rewrite our flexible working policy for all, to embrace all facets of flexibility, from working hours, communications policies to ways of working. We know that to feel empowered at work you need to feel the trust of your team and to be given the flexibility to work and grow how best suits you and your personal circumstances.

The importance of creating a supportive culture

When asking the team to describe what the culture is like at Tyto ‘supportive’ was a word that appeared most frequently. Furthermore, 85% of the team said that they feel they can be their authentic self at work. We believe this culture of one team all working together to achieve collective and personal goals has helped to make an inclusive and open space for people to be themselves at work.
