My location-agnostic PR agency life | Hannah Platt
Hello! I am Hannah, Senior Consultant at Tyto, and this my location-agnostic life. In this series, we want to highlight the freedom our model enables and how we navigate any challenges it presents.
What’s your morning routine?
It’s safe to say mornings are a bit of struggle for me, especially in the winter. I prefer a slow start to the day, so once I’ve woken up, I’ll get ready for the day, and head out for a morning walk. I try my best to avoid going on my phone and scrolling through the various social media apps and news before I’ve had a chance to settle into the morning. Once I’m back from the morning walk, I’ll make a cup of tea, open my laptop, see what’s going on in the world, check my emails and Slack notifications, and organise my to-do list for the day.
How do you organise your day?
I have a to-do list on a word document that I update each day and throughout the day. It’s really nothing fancy but it works for me! I keep a running list of actions and activity, from the small things to the big things, and make a note of timings. Once the item is completed, I’ll highlight it yellow and move it up the list! That moment is the equivalent to physically ticking an item off the list and brings a peaceful sense of satisfaction.
When are you the most productive?
I’d say the afternoon and early evening. I prefer slower mornings, so I’ll try to save that time for admin-related tasks that don’t require too much brain ammo. The afternoon is when I work better on content and tasks that require more brain power.
What is your favourite workplace?
At home, at my desk, not far from a kettle so I can keep a running stream of English Breakfast Tea! It’s a quiet space where I can just crack on with what I need to do.
What’s your favourite thing about working remotely?
There are so many things. In a nutshell, I have more time in the day to do what I want to do. However, up there near the top is the fact that I don’t have to do a two-hour commute to an office. I have the time for those slower mornings, the extra snooze time in bed, a quiet afternoon walk, and being able to head to the gym in the evening and not feel like I’m rushing around to get my cardio in!
Oh, and let’s not forget, the day provides many opportunities for a cuddle with my cat.
What do you miss about working in an office?
The water-cooler chit chat. However, I think at Tyto we are aware that those moments when you’d catch-up with colleagues about non-work-related things can be missed in a remote-working model, so we do all make a real effort to work in coffee catch-ups to our days!
What’s your secret weapon?
Can I have two? I’d say my to do list. It just keeps me on track! Then secondly, my personality. It surprises people to hear that I’m a C on the DISC model – which means an emphasis on quality, accuracy, expertise, and competency – and not an I (all about the influence and relationships). I like to keep things light-hearted and have fun while working, and make people smile! Colleagues have told me that I could talk for years about the most boring topic and somehow still make it (somewhat) enjoyable.
What is the culture like at Tyto?
It’s amazing. When I joined Tyto, everyone was so nice and friendly. I said to a few colleagues “Is this real? Is everyone like this, all the time?”. The team is so supportive, and despite us being many miles away from one another, it feels like we’re close by.
What do you like most about working at Tyto?
The team, the remote-work, and the flexibility.
