Following Up

Nish Ratanji,
The Stack

Series 6 / Episode 4
Welcome to Without Borders, the podcast from Tyto. As the only PR and communications agency built to scale high-growth technology companies faster across Europe, we know that earning meaningful media coverage across this region requires more than just a good story. It demands a deep understanding of how journalists, creators, and media owners work, and how influence is evolving in today’s increasingly interconnected and fast-changing media landscape.
The second series of Following Up is designed to give PR leaders at global technology companies exactly that perspective.
Hosted by Tyto media experts, Pauline Delorme and Bastian Meger, the series brings you candid conversations with some of Europe’s most respected technology journalists, industry influencers, and independent media founders. We explore how stories are selected, how influence is built across multiple platforms, and how commercial pressures and changing audience behaviours are reshaping the media landscape – and what that means for PR teams.
In this episode, Pauline and Bastian are joined by Nish Ratanji, co-founder of The Stack, an independent tech publication and community for senior IT leaders.

Nish launched The Stack with former Computer Business Review and Roubini Global Economics editor Edward Targett in December 2020 to cut through industry noise with agenda-free journalism, long-form interviews, and expert analysis, while also bringing leaders together through events, subscriptions, and peer communities.

In this episode, Nish explains how his experience in B2B tech communications inspired him to create a media platform dedicated to serving senior IT leaders with trusted, high-quality journalism. He shares how The Stack differentiates itself from traditional trade media through its focus on original reporting, peer-led insights and a business model built on authority and community rather than clicks and advertising.

Nish also discusses the evolving relationship between PR and journalism, the importance of building genuine media relationships, and how AI, newsletters, events and other emerging formats are reshaping the way technology leaders discover and consume information.

Across the series, Following Up gives communications leaders the opportunity to hear directly from the people shaping Europe’s technology conversation, offering a valuable perspective that helps refine media strategies, strengthen engagement, and approach the region with greater confidence.
