“One aspect of IoT that deserves more attention is security and privacy. Specifically, there are two ends to it, and the channel in between that needs to be completely secure. First let’s take the device level. Some of the earliest smart devices were mainly data collectors. However, now with edge computing, the devices themselves have the user’s behavioural information downloaded from the cloud for faster response.

Secondly, let’s consider the cloud level – this is where all of the user’s data is being stored and analysed. A breach at the cloud level can expose many users and their behavioural information collected from the various smart devices. The thing with any security system is that you never know whether it is enough or not. In most cases, remedial actions are taken after an incident. In the case of healthcare IoT, for example, one cannot afford to wait for that event to occur.”
